Spirit Rock 911 Memorial at Blake School in Duluth

The Blake School in Duluth built a memorial stadium in 2002 in honor of Gordy Aamoth, Jr., who was killed in the attack. The south of the stadium is focused around “Spirit Rock,” a monumental stone split by a piece of structural steel that was once a part of the south tower of the World Trade Center where Gordy worked. The four-and-a-half-foot, 500-pound I-beam is a gift from New York City to the Aamoth family. Paving stones, equal in number to those who died in this tragedy, spiral out from “Spirit Rock” to create the plaza.
