NYC Police Museum Honors 911 Officers

The New York City Police Museum is located at 100 Old Slip, New York, NY, between Water Street and South Street, just 4 blocks South of South Street Seaport. It includes a very moving permanent exhibit to 9/11 including many artifacts and an honor wall.

The NYC Fire Museum at 278 Spring Street has the September 11 Exhibit Hall honor the department’s 343 firefighters who perished on Sept. 11. Among the exhibits is a photo wall.

Tree of Life at To The Rescue Museum in Roanoke Honors 911 EMS Personnel

Tree of Life Roanoake Virginia
A “Tree of Life” in Roanoke, Virginia, honors EMS personnel lost across the country. It is part of the 3,000 foot “To The Rescue” museum in teh Tanglewood Mall. The memorial and museum are probably not as fully developed as some would like but it is still quite moving and has visitors from all over the country.

Gerritsen Beach Lutheran Church WTC in Belfry of Church That Signalled Return to Normalcy

The Gerritsen Beach Lutheran Church in Brooklyn achieved fame in September 2001 when Rudolph Guilianai signalled a return to normalcy when he walked Diane Gorumba down the aisle on September 16 to her husband-to-be, Michael Ferrito. Guiliani promised to give Gorumba away after her grandfather, father and finally, her brother, passed away in the previous year. Her brother, a firefighter, had agreed to take her father’s place, but died in an Aug. 28 2001 fire.

National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Honors 72 Fallen 911 Officers

National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington, DC
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial was dedicated in 1991 in Judiciary Square, Washington, D.C. by the first President George Bush. It honors all of America’s federal, state and local law enforcers. Inscribed on the Memorial’s blue-gray marble walls are the names of more than 17,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty, dating back to the first known death in 1792.

Missouri Gave Its Signature Firefighters Prayer Memorial to New York

The Fireman’s Prayer Memorial was the fastest permanent memorial in New York even though it was intended to be the centerpiece of the Missouri Fallen Firefighters Memorial complex in Kingdom City near Columbia in the center of the state.

National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg Honors All U.S. Firefighters

National Fallen Firefighters Memorial
The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park in Emmitsburg, Maryland, was authorized by Congress in 1990 and honors all firefighters in the U.S. who have fallen since 1981. The traditional dedication day is Memorial Day. 911 Firefighters were honored in 2002.

The Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Albany is in Empire State Plaza commemorates those who fell (from 1811 on) and includes a wall honoring all fallen New York State fallen firefighters and was originally dedicated in 1998.

The Engine 54 4 Truck Battalion 9 Firehouse on West 48th Street is the busiest firehouse in the city and suffered the worst loss on 9/11 — 15 firefighters.

Pride of Midtown Firefighters 911 Memorial Park at Ritz Plaza Honors Its Fallen 15

Firefighters Memorial Park at Ritz Plaza
The Firefighters Memorial Park at Ritz Plaza on 48th Street between Broadway and Eighth honors those who fell from the Engine 54 station across the street. It was dedicated in 2002. The fire station which is the heart of the Broadway Theatre Distriction had traditionally hung a banner “Never Missed a Performance.” Land for the park was donated by the neighboring Ritz Plaza Hotel.
