10 Tons of WTC in USS New York
The USS New York, a San Antonio class ship, is being built by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Avondale, LA, and includes 10 tons of melted World Trade Center steel.in the bow stem of the LPD21.
The New York will be used to transport and land Marines, their equipment and supplies, by embarked air cushion or conventional landing craft or amphibious assault vehicles, augmented by helicopters or vertical take off and landing aircraft. The USS New York will support amphibious assault, special operations, or expeditionary warfare missions throughout the first half of the 21st Century. The 684 foot long 105 feet high ship is to be christened in 2007.
