The Salome, Arizona, 911 Memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2004. It is located at 66710 Hwy 60 The design consists of a double-sided metal waving flag - an icon of hope and freedom. Then the brass circle holding it true - symbolizing the circle of life.
Lowell Swenseid, a Salome High School Art Teacher, designed and sculpted the art piece for the center of the monument. It depicts the now famous image of three fire fighters raising the American Flag over the debris at ground zero. The art piece was cast in bronze and donated by Thumb Butte Bronze of Prescott. The brass ring was fabricated by Glendale Welding. The Dobbin’s of Salome Ready Mix donated the concrete, decorative rocks, and labor. Materials & much labor were donated by Mo Montijo - Mo’s Fix It, Doug Wolfe & Gary Cole - Grower’s Oil, and Larry Leach - Double L. Handyman. Gabe Palma donated labor and the forms for the curbs. Gator Jorschumb built the concrete forms and supplied material. Richard Sena from Phoenix donated time & labor for staining the concrete. Salome Lion’s Club donated the concrete stain.
