Spotswood, NJ, Memorial
The memorial’s new design involves two dark grey marble columns, each 7 feet in height, that appear like the twin towers of the World Trade Center. The columns will stand atop a marble pedastal of 6 square feet that will feature the steel beam from the actual towers. The beam will be embedded at the base.
The memorial, being funded entirely through donations, is expected to be built off Summerhill Road on property between Spotswood High School and the municipal building, according to Frank Yusko, a member of the committee and also a history teacher at the high school. One of the Spotswood Sept. 11 Memorial Committee members who works in New York was involved in the clearing of the site and was able to obtain the approximately 4-foot-long beam.
