What’s With Up With Ground Zero’s Empty Tomb Two Tower Mecca Style Design?

You really have to wonder what LMDC/WTC Foundation was thinking when they signed off on a plan to erect an empty symbolic square tomb at Ground Zero that closely resembles the layout of Mecca.
We’re not that hardcore into conspiracies but couldn’t somebody at least glance at the plans so they don’t raise that flag? It’s bad enough that the relatively well run Shanksville memorial’s red maples created a crescent unfortunately pointing to Mecca but at Ground Zero, did they really have to miss what is obvious to more than a billion people?
World media immediately has picked up on the decision to place an empty tomb at the center of Ground Zero.
Ireland Online headlined its article “9/11 memorial plans scrapped”
The 30-foot-square stone vessel in which the remains were to have been housed, which will stand 9 feet high in the centre of the change, will be purely symbolic.
Michael Arad, one of the memorial’s architects, told the newspaper the role of the vessel and surrounding rooms had evolved.
“We’re not burying the remains,” he said.
“They have to be kept for future identification. We’re essentially keeping them in medically controlled conditions.”
He added that the medical examiner had told him “many family members wanted to see where the remains were, how they were being stored”.
He said of the monolithic vessel itself: “It provides a touchstone, a centre, something that people can gather around.”
But Diane Horning, the president of WTC Families for Proper Burial, said she did not see the point.
“Our loved ones aren’t symbolically dead,” she said, speaking in a personal capacity.
“But everything that’s been given to us is symbolic.”
Check out the WTC Memorial Thread at architecture oriented New York Wired and you will see that lots of folks are seeing the obvious two tower square central design of Mecca.
This in turn has prompted one poster to wonder whether the original WTC with its arched windows and simple geometric design center was a Mecca design to begin with.
And what’s up with all this symbolism crap? They have the historic site right there. You only fall back on symbolism when you pay tribute to an event far away!
