Which Would Do More Families: A Buried Contemplation Room or An Above Ground Memorial?

Plans for an underground contemplation room with a block box that evokes images of Mecca is turning heads at Ground Zero.

The climate-controlled, low-humidity chamber for the victims’ remains will be built on the ground where the trade center’s north tower stood. The black box will be “symbolic” and empty.

The actual remains will be sealed plastic pouches in refrigerated units in a container with drawers that has not been designed.

There also are plans within the north tower’s footprint for a separate office for the medical examiner, another room where family members can reflect privately and exhibition galleries for the memorial museum.

Commentary
You can’t make this stuff on how they are bungling.

The private space for families is likely to infuriate a public that is alrighty aggravated thinking families have achieved too much say over what happens at Ground Zero. Ironically most 911 families do not like this idea.

We’re not that hardcore into conspiracies but couldn’t somebody at least glance at the plans so they don’t raise that flag? It’s bad enough that the relatively well run Shanksville memorial’s red maples created a crescent unfortunately pointing to Mecca but at Ground Zero, did you really have to miss what is obvious to more than a billion people?
